The Effects of
Technology
Nowadays,
technology is considered ubiquitous because people completely rely on it to
facilitate their lives. It plays an important role in influencing the
society and individuals in both negative and positive ways. For this reason, there
is a serious conflict among educators about whether technology is useful or
harmful for our societies and especially for the new generation.
On one hand, proponents of technology suggest that using technology leads to ease and changes our lives for the better. For instance, it motivates people to find any information they need with little effort and in a short period of time, which leads to create an educated and efficient society. In addition, people can expand their relationship circle to include people from all over the world, which results in exchanging ideas and knowledge and learning about other cultures.
On the other hand, those opposing the excessive use of technology think that using technology on a daily basis leads to having a generation that is addicted to it and relies too heavily on it. People may lose the skills of verbal communication since they are more interested in dealing with these technical devices to get information and answers for their questions rather than contacting their friends, teachers or even parents.
As a result, it may interfere with the role of parents in the life of people, especially the new generation. Many studies have shown that there is obvious connection between autism and spending a lot of time on the new technology. Scientists have proven that technology addiction impacts the perception, memory, cognitive function and attention.
Using technology is increasing every day, and the conflict about its effects on individuals and society are limitless. I think Technology needs to be used wisely in order to support people and make their life easier and not to use it as the only source of communication and knowledge.
